“When the Phone Rings” Chae Soo-bin “My Dad Couldn’t Watch My Kiss Scenes with Yoo Yeon-seok”

In an interview with SPOTV News on Jan 8th, Chae Soo-bin said with a laugh, “My dad can’t watch kiss scenes, so he always turns off the TV. I think it’s hard for him to watch.“
Chae Soo-bin starred as the female lead Hong Hee-joo in MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “When the Phone Rings” (written by Kim Ji-woon, directed by Park Sang-woo and Wi Deuk-gyu).
The drama, based on a popular web novel, is a story that unfolds when a Show Window couple, who have been living without speaking to each other for three years in an arranged marriage, receive a threatening phone call from a kidnapper. In the series, Chae Soo-bin played Hong Hee-joo, a “modern-day mermaid” forced into muteness following a tragic accident that left her stepsister Hong In-ah (Han Jae-yi) deaf and her younger brother dead.

Chae Soo-bin said that the cast gathered to watch the final episode together. However, she added, “I couldn’t watch it with them because I was visiting my grandmother’s house. I ended up watching it alone, holding my breath. I couldn’t watch it with my parents. I think my dad wouldn’t have been able to handle it.”

She continued, “My mom seemed to enjoy it a lot. After every episode, she would say, ‘Wow, that was fun.’ When we could watch the show live together, my dad would always make himself scarce. He’d get ready for bed and wait until the episode ended to watch it later on Netflix before going to sleep.”
Chae Soo-bin went on to share a humorous anecdote, “I thought he was doing that because he couldn’t watch it with me, but then I found out he’d go around the neighborhood telling people ‘Turn on the TV’ and watch it again. But he really can’t watch my kiss scenes. He always turns the TV off. If a kiss scene is about to come on, he’ll go, ‘Ah, no!’ and turn it off.”
